Our practice is only a 22-minute drive from Christchurch.

What is gum disease?

Gum Disease is largely caused by an excess of plaque.

The disease can become more dangerous over time and if left untreated may develop into a more severe periodontal disease.

If you reach this stage of periodontal disease you can expect teeth to start becoming loose and ultimately end up falling out.

This happens as your gums begin to form pockets and the bone in your jaw recedes.

At Dorset Dental Implants we take gum disease very seriously.

First, we will look at the source of the problem and devise a treatment plan to reverse the disease and prevent bacteria from growing.

Is gum disease reversible?

The first stage of gum disease is Gingivitis, which is easier to reverse.

To eradicate, all that will need to be done is a rigorous daily cleaning routine and regular visits to hygienists.

More serious forms of the disease like periodontal disease can be a bit more difficult to reverse.

This is because pockets begin to form and the jawbone begins to recede, which can result in wobbly teeth and tooth loss.
