Are Dental Implants Worth It?

A dental implant is an artificial root that provides a stable, long-lasting foundation for a replacement tooth.

Here, at Dorset Dental we provide leading tooth replacement treatments for patients located in Christchurch and surrounding counties.

We are located less than 30 minutes away from Christchurch.

Dental implants are an incredibly popular missing teeth solution for patients across the UK who are looking to restore the functionality and appearance of their teeth.

“A single dental implant is capable of supporting one independently. It can also act as an anchor for a bridge or denture.”

There are a number of dental effects of having a missing tooth or multiple missing teeth.

At Dorset Dental Implants, our highly experienced team is here to explain the potential long-term oral effects and complications caused by a missing tooth. This includes:

  • Causes Teeth to Misalign: Gum disease and tooth decay are common causes for tooth loss, which can cause teeth to shift. A missing tooth can speed up this process as a vast gap can lead to a domino effect.
  • Chewing Difficulties: A missing tooth or missing teeth can certainly cause an unpleasant experience when it comes to eating and chewing. Every tooth in your mouth helps breakdown food, however, missing molars can affect the way you chew.
  • Creates Bite Irregularities: Because missing teeth can lead the remaining teeth to shift, it can impact how the upper and lower rows of teeth come together. This can begin to affect the oral health of your gums, jaw bone and remaining teeth.
  • Affects Your Facial Structure: A missing tooth will begin to affect your facial structure and overall appearance. The jawbone will gradually alter its shape as time goes by, which can cause a sunken appearance. Furthermore, a missing tooth can lead to confidence issues when it comes to smiling.

Can Dental Implants last a lifetime?

When looked after and care for properly, dental implants can last as long as natural teeth.

During a clinical examination, an assessment of your jawbone structure allows Dr Philip McCauley to determine if your jawbone is strong enough to support an implant which can possibly last a lifetime.

Dental implants offer a range of benefits that make them a popular missing teeth solution for patients in Dorset.

How to find us

Benefits of implants include:

  • Improves Bite and Chew Ability. Once a dental implant has been bonded to your jawbone, it’ll reduce bone loss and preserve your jawbone. The artificial tooth will function and feel like a natural tooth, which will greatly improve your chewing ability and natural bite.
  • Functions, Feels and Looks Natural. A dental implant is designed to restore the function of a natural tooth. They’re incredibly durable and once the treatment is complete, the artificial tooth will blend in with the neighbouring teeth.
  • Restores Your Natural Smile. A missing tooth can cause low self-esteem and confidence issues. A dental implant treatment aims to restore your facial aesthetics whilst enhancing your original appearance.

Who is suitable for all on four?

Our All-on-4 implant treatment isn’t suited for all our patients visiting our practice in Poole.

During your initial consultation, we’ll be able to assess the current oral health of your mouth and the degree of bone loss.

The most important aspect of determining your suitability for this treatment is:

  • A good amount of bone. If you lack enough bone, we can perform a bone regeneration procedure so that the implant is securely set in your gum and has longevity.
  • All four implants need to remain healthy and intact for the implant bridge to remain stable
