Dental Implants Procedure
What should you expect during your dental implant surgery?
Dental implants are a popular missing tooth solution. They offer a number of oral health and cosmetic benefits that make it a common treatment option for patients in Dorset.
When it comes to your dental implant treatment with us, we’re here to provide you with information at every step, keeping you informed during your implant procedure and surgery.
When you book your consultation with us, we’ll take the necessary steps during your clinical examination to ensure that you are suitable for dental implant treatment.
During your examination, you can expect:
- An analysis to confirm that your mouth is strong enough to support a titanium, artificial root.
- A thorough assessment of your oral health history.
- X-rays to give us further insight into your facial structure.
- Teeth models created to match your neighbouring teeth.
- A detailed look over any other medical conditions.
- Computer-generated mock-up of what your future implant could look like.
Once we’re happy with these aspects during your treatment planning and believe that you are suitable for a dental implant, we can begin the necessary preparation for your treatment.
This could include removing any traces of a damaged tooth, and optimising your jawbone too. Contact us today.
How is the dental implant placed?
After your jawbone has been prepped for surgery, the dental implant is inserted into the gum line.
The process is relatively painless after the administration of a local anaesthetic.
Afterwards, the abutment is screwed into the implant which acts as a base for the crown to be placed on.
However, the process of the implant to bond to your jawbone can potentially take up to several months. This is because the jawbone needs time to heal.
It’s extremely important that the artificial root has successfully bonded otherwise the implant could fail.
When your gums have fully healed, we’ll begin to take further impressions of your mouth and teeth, making sure we design the perfect crown that’ll look natural for your smile. Are dental implants worth it?
