What are immediate implants?

The difference with immediate implants is that the dentist fits them immediately after extraction.

In normal circumstances, implants take three months to heal before any final restoration is made or attached.

After osseointegration completes, you will have the implant crown (the final part of the restoration) permanently fixed.

However, in the case of immediate implants, the implants can be placed the same day as the tooth extraction.

When are they possible?

  • When the bone around the failing tooth is intact
  • When the bone around the surrounding tissue is infection-free

Immediate implant advantages

Immediately loaded implants are often favoured because the patient does not have to wait an extended period for their new tooth.

With immediate implants, patients can also avoid wearing temporary restorations and will require fewer dental appointments.

Are there any limitations?

The success rate for immediate implants is not as high as with standard implants. This is because we skip the essential healing period.

However, you can trust here at Dorset Dental Implants that we will advise patients on their suitability for the treatment – this is so we can ensure that the ratio of success is maximised.

Are immediate implants suitable for everyone?

Whilst immediate implants are primarily suitable for the majority of patients. Our dentists recommend that if you smoke, drink heavily or have other oral health conditions, we might need to take a deeper look into your oral foundation.

During a consultation, our expert restorative dentist will be able to determine your appropriateness very quickly for treatment.

If you have lost a tooth, act QUICK!

If, for example, you have lost a tooth due to an injury, we might be able to place a tooth implant immediately.

But you will need to act fast, as, within just a few days, the gum will have grown down into the socket, which will make it more difficult for us to place an immediate implant.

The same goes for patients who believe they are about to lose a tooth – speak to us. We can work with you to immediately replace a tooth when you lose one. So you will never have to worry about gaps in your smile!

We have a success rate of 98.2%
