Can you get dental implants for free?

In theory, it is possible, but there are very strict guidelines in claiming dental implants on the NHS. Even if there is a clinical need for tooth replacement surgery, you will likely be offered dentures or bridgework instead.

Potential additional fees

Patients who have ignored tooth loss for a long period are likely to suffer from bone loss in their jawbone, which is a problem that needs to be resolved in the case of conventional implant placement.

When there is insufficient bone present, there is nothing for the implant to fuse to and can become wobbly and dislodge out of place – something you definitely don’t want to happen after spending money on your new smile.

However, there are other non-conventional treatments we can use to work around little bone in the jaw, as some implant-based treatments like All-on-4 are the graftless solution to full arch rehabilitation.

Cheap implants

Cheap, low-costing implants might seem alluring and attractive, but please note that implants are priced as they are for a reason – and that reason is that they require meticulous planning, care and attention.

Dental implants fail, and we can’t tell you how many times we’ve had to resurrect work carried out in places like Turkey, which have left patients with metal palates and grating exposed.

Please note that choosing a dentist abroad means choosing unknown techniques, brands and systems that we here in the UK might not be able to help with if things go wrong.

How are implants charged?

The price of dental implants can fluctuate and even depend on where you are in the UK. For example, dentists in London tend to charge more than we do down here in Dorset.

On top of this, the implant treatment itself might be hard to provide a quote before a discussion and an examination takes place – this is because there are so many kinds of dental implants, methods and options we can undertake.

An examination will help us find the best route to tooth restoration or full arch rehabilitation. For example, if you have multiple missing teeth, we can use implant-based systems like Implant-Retained Dentures to reduce costs significantly.

Factors that might affect the price

The location of your treatment – cities tend to be more expensive.
The type of system or brand that you have selected for treatment.
If you have opted for implant-based systems that integrate traditional treatments with implants.
The experience of the clinician carrying out the surgery – implantologists with practices dedicated to implants may be more expensive.
If you need any pre-implant procedures like bone augmentations, sinus or gum lifts.
Your final restoration, whether it’s a crown, denture or bridge.

  I have always put off going to the dentist as I really dread it..but now I look forward to going since visiting Philip, Kayleigh and all their staff.. they are all super friendly but yet professional and the technology and treatment is to such a high standard!

  My dentist put me in touch with Dorset Dental implants just over 3 years ago in relation to having an implant and I am very pleased he did. The three year wait was due to having to go under general anaesthetic at Poole Hospital to have an embedded tooth removed. Doctor Philip McCauley advised me that there would be a wait and was kind enough to give detail on the scans and the complexities of my case twice. The second time he allowed me to film them on my phone as the hospital were unable to locate the original file. This was particularly helpful as I had just ran over the road from the hospital appointment and back again, job done. I've now had the implant fitted and cannot thank Philip and his team any more. They explain everything in detail, put you at ease, offer after care and although I am mid-treatment I have no worries that all will end well.
